This week has been very interesting. I have learnt a lot more about the Main Library Redevelopment project through various meetings, conversations and background reading.
Many of the finer details are being discussed and we are moving towards a more complete picture of both the logistics of the work needed and what we believe the final outcome may look like. We are also looking at a timeline for consultation on a number of aspects of the project. I believe everyone will be very excited at how they can get involved in helping to shape the redevelopment. More information about this will start to be released in due course, as we are still at the early stages.
It can be easy to lose sight of the bigger picture when you’re working in specific areas so it has been very interesting to learn more about our current study spaces across the University and the potential for future learning environments. Seeing more information about both the impact of the Main Library Redevelopment project and the scale of the Campus Masterplan is awe-inspiring and I am very proud to be a part of it.
I attended a very interesting meeting looking at a number of other development projects that the Library team are involved with; including the Manchester Business School, Fallowfield Residencies Development and the Manchester Engineering Campus Development (MECD). All these projects are unique and at different stages; however, it’s exciting that we’re starting to see what our university will be offering to students, staff and the City of Manchester in the coming years.
Next week I enter the second half of the handover period with my full time position starting on Monday, 22 June. The colleagues who are supporting me have been great and the healthy position the development project is in is a credit to their hard work and determination.
It seems like summer is trying to start and so I hope you are able to enjoy the weather this weekend.
